How to Measure Your Door for a PVC Strip Curtain

  1. Measure the opening width
Measure inside the door frame, from one side to the other.
  2. Measure the opening height
Measure from the finished floor to the top of the opening. Also check the distance from the proposed strip hanging point to the floor, as mounting the bar above the opening affects the required strip length.
  3. Check the mounting surface
Allow space above the opening for the mounting bar, and check that the supplied fixings suit your wall or frame.

Choose the Right Strip Size

Use the following as a general selection guide. Traffic frequency and site conditions also affect the best choice.

Application Typical Strip Size
Light pedestrian traffic 100mm wide × 1mm–2mm thick
Staff, trolleys and carts 200mm wide × 2mm thick — this kit
Forklifts and vehicle traffic 300mm wide × 3mm–4mm thick

DIY Installation Guide

Installing your PVC strip curtain is simple:

  1. Install the mounting bar
Use a spirit level to position the bar above the opening, then securely fix it to the wall face using fixings suitable for the surface.
  2. Hang the strips
Attach the pre-fitted strip holders to the mounting bar.
  3. Trim the height if required
With the strips hanging, mark the required finished length. Remove each strip and lay it flat on a suitable cutting surface. Use heavy-duty scissors or a sharp utility knife and straightedge to cut across the bottom, keeping the full 200mm strip width. Rehang and check that the strips clear the floor without dragging.

Fit for Different Opening Sizes

Narrower doorways — under 2m

  • Cut the stainless steel mounting bar to the required length using suitable metal-cutting tools, then deburr the cut edge.
  • Use fewer strips or adjust their overlap to cover the opening.
  • Check the final layout before cutting or fixing the bar.

Wider doorways — over 2m

  • Install multiple kits with mounting bars positioned end-to-end.
  • Maintain the strip overlap across the join to avoid a gap.
  • Plan the total coverage before installation, allowing for overlap where the kits meet.

Shorter doorways — under 3m

  • Trim the PVC strips across their bottom ends to suit the installed hanging height.
  • Measure from the finished floor and leave enough clearance to prevent dragging.

Installation Tips

  • Keep the mounting bar level so the strips hang evenly.
  • Maintain consistent overlap across the doorway.
  • Check for pipes, cables and other obstructions before drilling.
  • Confirm the finished fit before trimming all strips.
